Hanging skeletons on your lawn? Carved pumpkins out by the doorway? Already have the Christmas lights out?

If you live in Henderson you can compete against your neighbors in the city’s annual holiday decorating contest, which is geared toward the Christmas season. The program is sponsored by the Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission.

To mark the beginning of holiday season the city of Henderson is opening the contest to the first 50 applicants. Entries will be accepted until Nov. 17. The competition is free to applicants.

The outdoor challenge is open to residential single-family homes in Henderson. The decorating contest consists of several categories like homes with 1,000 lights, non-traditional displays, most innovative, children’s theme, and streets — for a group of at least three neighboring homes.

Preliminary judging, done by members of the commission, will take place Nov. 28 and 29. Final judging is scheduled for Dec. 5.

Winners will receive awards at the city’s annual Winterfest event on Dec. 9 at the Henderson Events Plaza at 200 Water St.

When the competition has ended the city’s parks department will post a map of all the entries so onlookers can see the displays for themselves.

Entry forms are available online (cityofhenderson.com) (type “decorate” in the search box), or by calling 702-267-4014.
