Homeless man seriously injured in fire

Dumpster fire

A homeless man was rushed to the hospital Thanksgiving Day with life-threatening burn injuries suffered in a Dumpster fire, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.

Firefighters say they responded to a report of a Dumpster fire at the intersection of Bassler Street and Haddock Avenue near Las Vegas Boulevard behind a local business about 11:15 p.m.

They found the fire and a man who was engulfed in flames. Firefighters say they extinguished the flames, and the man was taken to University Medical Center’s burn unit with life-threatening injuries.

The fire did not damage any surrounding businesses and there were no other reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and estimated damage costs are not yet determined.

Firefighters are asking the public to call 633-1102 if they were in the area of the incident around the time of the fire.
