Clark County firefighters rescued a man from a swarm of bees Thursday afternoon near Eastern Avenue and Desert Inn Road.

A man who was attacked by a swarm of bees Thursday afternoon and stung perhaps hundreds of times is in the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The man was rescued by firefighters from a nearby Clark County Fire Department station about 4:40 p.m. and taken to Sunrise Hospital, Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said.

Battalion Chief Greg Cassell said the man was covered in bees when firefighters found him near Eastern Avenue and Desert Inn Road. Firefighters in protective gear moved him away from a beehive to treat him for his wounds, officials said.

About 30 minutes later, they went back to destroy the hive, which they doused with foam, officials said.

Dispatchers received a 911 call and several people walking past the fire station alerted firefighters to the situation, Cassell said.

Kulin said bee attacks are “fairly uncommon but not unheard of.”

The name of the victim, described as a man in his 40s, has not been released.
