Henderson to honor local veterans at Saturday ceremony

Henderson plans to honor local veterans this weekend with a service for current and fallen soldiers.

Members of the Henderson City Council, Basic High School Marine Corps JROTC and local veterans are coming together this weekend for the city’s annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Henderson Events Plaza Amphitheater at 200 Water Street.

The amphitheater sits adjacent to the Henderson Memorial Wall, dedicated in November of 1994 as a tribute to local veterans.

This Saturday names will be added to the panel on the wall honoring hundreds of both living and deceased Vietnam veterans. A section of the wall recognizes Henderson residents who were killed in action or died from enemy action or terrorism and received a Purple Heart. A panel reserved for deceased veterans who lived in Henderson prior to 1980 will also be on display.

Brig. Gen. David Buck, Vice Commander of the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis Air Force Base, will present the keynote address and Basic High School’s Marine Corps JROTC will carry out the presentation of color and read the name to be added to the memorial. The Henderson Symphony Orchestra will also perform a musical tribute to veterans.
