Savers
Savers, a thrift store chain opening its sixth Las Vegas location in June, is hosting a hiring fair next week to fill more than 50 positions at its new store.
Those interested are invited to come by the store, 8530 W. Lake Mead Blvd., between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Applicants need to apply for jobs in person.
Positions are available for individuals with customer service and sales experience, as well as candidates seeking entry-level retail positions, the company said in a news release. Employment opportunities include back room store production positions and sales floor roles, full-time and part-time.
Savers "offers a diverse workplace, benefits for full-time employees, competitive pay and excellent opportunities for growth," the company said. There are more than 270 stores throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia.
The store is scheduled to open June 2. A portion of the store's proceeds will benefit Safe Nest, a local organization that aids victims of domestic violence.

These are low-end jobs, but they ARE jobs, and I happen to like the gaining popularity of thrift stores. So good luck to this store and the gang who will work there.
The particular Savers in my neighborhood underwhelms me, but my kids and I have taken to patronizing competing thrift stores in town, in general. I reject spending big bucks on fashion; I've got better things to do with my money. You can get great, name-brand threads -- still in fine condition -- for as low as $2.98. I think the most I ever spent was $9 for a jacket at Plato's Closet.
Sign o' the times.
Dollar stores are making a KILLING these days.
As is the Dollar Menu of fast food restaurants.
If we could just get dollar gas stations.
"So I guess the answer to the question is, not all of these jobs are going to come back. And it probably wouldn't be good for our economy for a bunch of these jobs to come back because, frankly, there's no way that people could be getting paid a living wage on some of these jobs ..." - President Obama, March 26, 2009
Yeah, we're replacing manufacturing jobs with so many better paying service jobs, right? How many people are employed making the products that 50 sales people at Savers can move?
I don't know the number, but I would bet that having 500 people employed at minimum wage would be better than just 50 at minimum wage. So yes, we *DO* want those jobs to come back if at all possible!
