Gov. Brian Sandoval will be in Boulder City on Friday for the dedication of the Copper Mountain solar plant.
Construction began in January 2010 on Sempra Energy's Copper Mountain plant, which is the largest photovoltaic solar plant in the United States. It began operating in December.
Sandoval, Boulder City Mayor Roger Tobler and leaders from Sempra, including Sempra Generation President and CEO Jeff Martin, will be present for the dedication.
The 48-megawatt facility, located on 380 acres in Eldorado Valley on the edge of Boulder City, generates enough electricity to power about 14,000 homes in a day, according to Sempra officials.
