A 53-year-old Las Vegas man died Tuesday night after being struck by a car during a hit-and-run incident on Maryland Parkway, Metro Police said.

It happened about 9:40 p.m. on Maryland Parkway north of Desert Inn Road.

A preliminary investigation indicates a dark-colored sedan was traveling south in the center lane on Maryland Parkway north of Desert Inn Road when it hit the pedestrian. The man was crossing Maryland Parkway from east to west, but he wasn't in a marked crosswalk, police said.

The sedan struck the pedestrian as he entered the center, southbound travel lane, authorities said. The driver of the sedan then fled the scene southbound on Maryland Parkway.

Medical personnel took the man to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead. The incident marked the 33rd traffic-related death in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the victim pending notification of family. The investigation is ongoing.
