Updated Tuesday, June 28, 2011 | 9:54 a.m.

A 37-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old boy was injured in a single-vehicle ATV collision Monday night in the Lake Mead Recreation Area, Metro Police said today.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jose Alfredo Magallon, of Las Vegas. His official cause and manner of death have not been determined.

The accident happened about 8:08 p.m. Monday at the Rainbow Gardens area, officers said.

They said evidence at the scene indicates a Yamaha ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) was traveling east on a dirt road designated for "Off Road Vehicles Only."

"The operator failed to maintain the roadway, drove left of center and into a ravine," police said. The drive and the teen were ejected from the ATV, police said.

The teen was transported to UMC Trauma with critical injuries and Magallon, the ATV operator, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, police said.

Police said the collision remains under investigation by Metro's Accident Investigation Section.
