One man was killed and eight other people, including two infants, were injured in a rollover accident near Overton, authorities said.

Lake Mead Parks and Recreation officials received a call at about 6:15 p.m. that an SUV had rolled off the side of Northshore Road, just north of Echo Bay, spokesman Andrew Munoz said.

It appears the driver of the vehicle lost control after driving around a corner and rolled off of the paved road, he said. No other vehicles were involved.

There were nine people in the SUV — two infants, three children and four adults, Munoz said. An adult male, believed to be the driver, died in the crash, he said. The other passengers were transported for medical treatment, officials said.

The extent of the passengers’ injuries was not immediately available. Two passengers were transported by air and the remaining six were transported by ambulance, Munoz said.

Munoz said the area where the accident occurred has undergone road reconstruction to take out a lot of the sharp curves. While there are still curves in the road, they are not as severe as they once were, he said.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation, Munoz said.
