The preliminary hearing for the man accused of murdering 22-year-old Michael Portaro outside the Tenaya Creek Brewery is on the calendar for July 8.

Justice of Peace Janiece Marshall set bail at $1 million for the murder charge against suspect Brandon Hill.

Hill, 23, was charged earlier this week in connection with the death of Portaro, who was shot to death March 30 outside the northwest valley brewery while selling tickets to an upcoming concert.

Police previously had arrested Hill on May 19 for a robbery in the northwest valley that happened March 26, four days before Portaro's slaying.

DNA evidence found at the scene of the murder allegedly linked Hill to the crime. The forensic evidence included a cigarette found at the scene that surveillance video shows the suspect smoking before the crime.

Police also seized a firearm from Hill on April 10 during a traffic stop, and detectives believe that weapon was used during Portaro's murder.

Authorities charged Hill with carrying a concealed firearm in the April 10 incident.

Hill is being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
