Authorities say they arrested a man Tuesday who fled to Las Vegas after he allegedly shot a California store clerk during an attempted robbery the previous day.

Officials said 21-year-old Justin Michael Brooks entered a Hollywood convenience store at 8:20 a.m. Monday, aimed a gun at a clerk and demanded money. When the victim turned to run, police say Brooks allegedly shot him once and ran from the area.

The bullet passed through the victim’s arm and into his chest, according to a statement from the Criminal Apprehension Team, which includes the FBI, Metro Police and Henderson Police. He was hospitalized in critical condition.

Officials said the gunman was seen wearing a tan jacket, a white or blue T-shirt, black shoes and a black hat with the letter “P” on the front. A witness and the victim recognized him as Brooks, who was known from the neighborhood.

Los Angeles police determined Brooks had fled to Las Vegas, where he was found Tuesday in the 500 block of North Circle, near Paradise Avenue and Twain Road. Brooks was arrested without incident at an apartment. Police recovered a revolver and a black hat matching the one involved in the incident, authorities said.

He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to Los Angeles on attempted murder and attempted robbery charges.
