Mobile home fire

A child playing with a lighter led to one adult and six children being treated for minor injuries after their eastern valley mobile home caught on fire Thursday morning.

The Clark County Fire Department was called at 8:07 a.m. to the home at 5868 East Carey Ave., which is near Lake Mead and Nellis boulevards, county spokeswoman Stacey Welling said.

When firefighters arrived smoke was coming from all the windows and doors of the home, and the adult woman and six children were outside the home, Welling said.

Firefighters put out the fire and rescued three dogs and three cats from the house, Welling said.

Investigators said they believed the fire was caused when a 3-year-old child began playing with lighter. They are classifying the blaze as accidental.

Total damage was estimated at $15,000, but officials said the residents would not be able to continue living in the home.

All seven people were taken to University Medical Center to be treated for injures, the woman for minor burns and the children for smoke inhalation, Welling said.
