3 indicted in alleged automotive repair shop scam

Three men were indicted on multiple theft charges arising from their operation of the 702 Auto Care automotive repair shop in Las Vegas, Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said today.

The indictment alleges that Harold Gomez, Jose Gomez, and Yader Gomez, also known as Tony Gomez, intentionally and falsely misrepresented to customers that their vehicles would be repaired in exchange for payment. The state alleged that that the defendants never intended to repair these vehicles, that the repairs were not performed, and that the victims’ payments were not returned.

“This type of scam costs the victims much more than the amount they paid to the defendants,” Cortez Masto said. “Several of these victims were left without transportation for several months and their vehicles required costly repairs beyond those originally needed because of defendants’ actions. My office is committed to ensuring that this type of conduct does not continue in our State.”

The case was investigated by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles after numerous complaints were received about misrepresentations made by the three men. The complaints included those from individuals who said they paid several thousand dollars to the defendants for engine rebuilds or replacements that were never received. The attorney general’s Bureau of Consumer Protection is prosecuting the matter.
