Governor names acting director of state Agriculture Department

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval has named a man with a long history in agriculture as acting director of the state Agriculture Department.

Jim Barbee, an agricultural consultant in the state Department of Education, was the unanimous nominee of the state Board of Agriculture to succeed Tony Lesperance, who resigned.

The governor has said he would not reappoint Lesperance. Barbee is expected to remain in the job at least through the upcoming legislative session. A permanent director will be selected later.

Barbee has served on the National Future Farmers of American Board of Directors and on the Future Farmers of America Foundation Board of Trustees.

He will receive his certificate as a certified public manager this month.
