Metro Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred this morning in the western valley near Alta Drive and Jones Boulevard, police spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said.
Police responded at 10:43 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Slayton Drive. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead
Homicide detectives were working to determine the events that led to the shooting. Police said they didn't have any suspects.
A neighbor, Edwin Rosales, 19, said he heard one gunshot and went outside to find a man laying in the doorway of the house across the street.
He said he didn't see anyone with a gun.
"It's a calm neighborhood, but you never know," he said. "I was just shocked."
