A man was fatally shot and a woman was wounded Saturday after they were gunned down while taking out trash at their northwest Las Vegas apartment complex.

Police Lt. Lew Roberts said officers responded at 1:08 p.m. to the Evergreen Apartments in the 5400 block of West Cheyenne Avenue. He said police arrived to find a man dead with multiple gunshot wounds and a woman who was shot in the foot.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center with injuries that weren't life-threatening, Roberts said.

Police said the man and woman were taking out trash when they were confronted by two men near the parking lot. Authorities said words were exchanged during argument, then one man fired several shots at the victims.

The gunman was described as a heavy set black man, about 23 or 24 years old, about 5-feet-8-inches tall and wearing a black hoodie, black jacket and white T-shirt. The suspects fled in either a silver or white small vehicle in an unknown direction.

The name of the victim will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metro Homicide Section at 828-3521.

The shooting happened in a parking lot off Michael Way. The homicide was the second of the year in Metro's jurisdiction.
