A man who apparently tried to rob a pawn shop was shot to death Wednesday morning after exchanging gunfire with a store employee, Metro Police said.

A man entered the Cash America SuperPawn store in the 7000 block of North Durango Drive about 9:30 a.m. in what appeared to be an attempt to rob the store, Metro spokesman officer Bill Cassell said.

The man was armed with a gun and exchanged shots with a store employee, Cassell said.

Nobody else was injured, police said. It is unclear how many shots were fired and whether any customers were in the store.

No arrests have been made, and police were interviewing employees.

The name of the man killed has not been released.

Tony Twist, region vice president for SuperPawn, issued a statement. "At SuperPawn, our first concern is for the safety of our customers and coworkers," he said. "Currently, we are fully cooperating with authorities to sort through the details of this unfortunate incident.”
