Man charged in Henderson shooting

KSNV reports on the charges filled against a man who was shot after pointing a rifle at a Henderson Police officer Monday, Dec. 27, 2011.

Police shooting

A 53-year-old man shot Monday by Henderson Police after he leveled a rifle at an officer is being charged with five felony counts, according to jail records.

Tony McNeill of Henderson, who remains in Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, was booked in absentia into the Henderson Detention Center, records show.

McNeill faces two charges of discharging a firearm inside a structure and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, jail records show. McNeill was being held on $21,000 bond, and a court date is scheduled for Jan. 3.

The shooting happened about 1:50 p.m. at Country Hills condominiums at 698

South Racetrack Road, near Boulder Highway.

Police received a call from McNeill’s mother, who said her son was threatening to commit suicide and pointing a rifle at family members inside a condominium, Henderson Police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said. Police had also received reports of shots fired before they got to the complex, he said.

Once they arrived, officers encountered McNeill, who was armed with a rifle, just outside the door of a condominium and ordered him to surrender, Rasmussen said.

The man pointed the gun at an officer and three officers opened fire, police said. No other injuries were reported.
