A Henderson home was destroyed in a house fire Friday that caused $150,000 in damage.

The Henderson Fire Department responded to a single-story home fire near the intersection of Greenway Road and Heather Drive about 1:23 p.m. Friday after multiple callers reported smoke coming from the rear of a home.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames at the home when they arrived. After attempting to extinguish the fire from inside, firefighters were forced to exit and extinguish the flames from outside. The

fire was under control in 25 minutes, according to fire department spokesman Michael Gibson.

Gibson said no one was home during the fire and there were no injuries. The fire, which spread through the attic and into the entire home, displaced five residents and their family pets. One of the family’s three pets is still missing.

The Red Cross and other family members assisted the displaced residents, according to the Henderson Fire Department.

The fire was determined to be an accident but the exact cause is still under investigation.
