Henderson to host triathalon workshop

In September, the city of Henderson will be hosting some of the top tri-athletes from around the world, but beginners can get in on the fun, too, through a workshop with the Parks and Recreation Department.

The department on Sept. 10 is hosting Tri Basics, a workshop to introduce residents to the sport that includes running, swimming and biking.

On Sept. 11, the city will host the Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3 triathlon for the first time.

The Tri Basics workshop is aimed at athletes of all skill levels, including novices.

Athletes will learn about competition basics, including swim stroke development, bike mechanics and running performance. They’ll also receive tips on training and equipment.

“Serious and casual athletes alike can benefit from this workshop because triathlon training places a strong emphasis on cardiovascular health and fitness, which is essential to a healthy lifestyle,” aquatics supervisor Trevor Snow said in a statement.

The workshop costs $30 and is open to people ages 16 and older.

Those interested can register at any city of Henderson indoor pool or recreation center, or online at cityofhenderson.com using activity code 436623-00.

For more information, visit the Parks and Recreation website or call 267-5870.
