Governor names new Taxation Department director

Gov. Brian Sandoval has named William Chisel, a certified public accountant, director of the state Department of Taxation.

Chisel, who was chief of the state Office of Internal Audits, succeeds Dino DiCianno, who retired in March after it was revealed no auditors were trained to check the accuracy of taxes paid by mining companies.

Chris Nielsen has been acting director and will return to his post as deputy director.

The department's primary task is to collect taxes. The governor said he "wanted accounting expertise in this leadership post, so Bill's credential as a certified public accountant played an important factor in my decision."

Chisel was previously a senior auditor at the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
