August sets record as hottest in Las Vegas history

This month will go into the record books as the hottest August in Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

Based on an average of the high and low temperatures, the weather service reports the month’s average temperature this year was 93.9 degrees, while records dating back to 1937 show August 1995 with the second highest average at 93.1 degrees.

The average high for August this year was 105.8, which is 3.8 degrees above the average August high of 102.

The average low temperature at 81.9 was 2.5 degrees above the normal average of 79.4, according to the weather service.

August saw 30 days of triple digit highs this year, the most for an August since 1996,

which had 29 triple-digit days. August 1937, 1944, 1952 and 1985 all experienced 31 days with triple digit highs.
