Nine Henderson businesses sold alcohol to minors during a compliance check by police this past weekend, resulting in citations to clerks, authorities said.
Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said officers from the community relations unit, along with underage volunteers, conducted checks at 73 convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores in the city. Of those, 64 didn't sell alcohol to minors, he said.
The following nine businesses failed:
• Rebel gas station, 10000 S. Eastern Ave.
• City Stop, 971 S. Boulder Highway
• Lee’s Discount Liquor, 1338 S. Boulder Highway
• Shell gas station, 500 Conestoga Way
• AM/PM gas station, 4161 E. St. Rose Parkway
• 7-Eleven, 835 Seven Hills Drive
• Trader Joe’s, 2716 N. Green Valley Parkway
• Vons, 45 E. Horizon Ridge Parkway
• Branded Meats & Deli, 1550 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway
Authorities issued citations to the clerks involved, all of whom face a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine, police said. If a business is caught selling alcohol to minors a second or third time, owners or managers could be issued a citation and face the revocation of their business license.
The department used a federal grant to conduct the investigation to reduce juvenile alcohol-related crimes and alcohol abuse by minors. Monitoring of liquor-selling businesses is ongoing, police said.
