DUI checkpoint, increased patrols planned during holiday weekend

Metro Police and partner law enforcement agencies will be conducting a DUI checkpoint east of the Las Vegas Strip this holiday weekend.

Police said the checkpoint will be in operation from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday near Paradise Road and Tropicana Avenue.

Saturation patrols will be deployed in the surrounding area — bound by Tropicana Avenue to the south, Flamingo Road to the north, Maryland Parkway to the east and Koval Lane to the west, authorities said.

Police said they chose the location based on successful prior checkpoints in the area. This event also will focus on finding drug-impaired drivers with the help of specially trained drug recognition expert officers, officials said.

A grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety will fund the event, which will include participation from the Nevada Highway Patrol, North Las Vegas Police Department, Henderson Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
