Letter to the Editor:

Public transit does a great job here

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun’s Aug. 21 story, “Las Vegas public transit among the nation’s best”:

Three cheers for the Regional Transportation Commission.

A recent Brookings Institution report, as the Sun noted, found that 94 percent of Las Vegas households without cars are in neighborhoods served by the RTC. Herein, Las Vegas ranks in the top 10 in America for job access via public transit.

RTC General Manager Jacob Snow says they’ve built express routes near where people live relative to where they work.

The RTC’s paratransit service is a blessing to thousands of handicapped and senior citizens throughout Clark County. Those who qualify, including myself, receive door-to-destination pickup transportation for a small fee — for doctor appointments, shopping, etc. And the paratransit drivers are efficient, courteous and helpful — among the best in the country. I salute them.

It’s edifying to know our public transit system is recognized as one of the best. In this we all can be proud.
