Former North Las Vegas home caregiver fined $250

The Nevada state attorney general's office says a 70-year-old former elder home health caregiver was sentenced to one year of probation and fined $250 after pleading an equivalent of no contest to a patient abuse charge.

Nellie Magtaas was sentenced Monday by Clark County District Court Judge Melisa De La Garza following her plea on a misdemeanor neglect charge.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto says the judge also gave the former Garden of Eden Home Care owner a suspended 30-day jail sentence.

Masto says the complaint stemmed from a Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance complaint about a resident who fell at the facility.

Magtaas's lawyer didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
