Metro to appeal $2.2 million crash verdict

KSNV coverage of Metro Police plans to appeal a $2.2 million verdict in a 1997 car crash involving a Metro officer in which another man was killed, Aug. 27, 2011.

Metro Police plan to appeal a verdict that awarded $2.2 million to the family of man killed in a July 2007 car crash involving a Las Vegas policeman.

On Friday, a District Court jury awarded the the amount to the family of Raymond Yeghiazarian, a motorist who was killed in an accident with an officer on Fort Apache Road and Sahara Avenue.

Metro released a statement saying that they will appeal the verdict, claiming that Nevada Revised Statues says that cases like this only allow for a maximum award of $250,000.

According to the press release, Metro “anticipates that the final award could be less than $250,000 as the judge must convert this verdict into a judgment.”

The officer involved in the accident was unharmed.
