Dangerously hot temperatures and a chance for storms are headed to the Las Vegas Valley again today, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued an excessive heat warning again for areas below elevations of 4,000 feet in southern Nevada, southeast California and northwest Arizona.

Forecasters also said there's a possibility of afternoon and evening thunderstorm today, with gusty winds higher than 40 mph.

Locally heavy downpours could possibly trigger isolated flash flooding over Mohave, Clark and eastern San Bernardino counties, they said.

Near-record temperatures are expected to persist through Monday. The excessive heat warning has been extended through 8 p.m. Monday.

Around the valley just before 7 a.m., temperatures were 87 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 89 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 85 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 94 degrees by 9 a.m., to 103 degrees by noon and reach a high of 108 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 100 degrees and the record high was 109 degrees, set in 2001 and 1944.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 108 degrees by 6 p.m., to 102 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 96 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.
