Pedestrian killed
A man using a walker was killed Thursday night when he was struck by a car while crossing Boulder Highway, near Lamb Boulevard, Metro Police said.
The incident happened about 8:25 p.m. as the man attempted to cross the road near the Town & Country Manor extended-stay hotel, police said.
Metro Police Lt. Dan McGrath said the man was crossing the six-lane highway East to West, without being in a crosswalk or at a light signal, when he was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound.
He was killed instantly, police said. His name was not released.
Police closed down a half-mile stretch of highway around the accident scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the accident was caused by pedestrian error, police said. The crash remains under investigation.

I don't know what was up with this particular guy (how can anyone expect to jaywalk across Boulder Highway with a walker?), but in general, should the county get anymore "Rebuilding America" funds and such, we need far more pedestrian overpasses and simple crosswalks with traffic signals. Too many stretches without any place to legally cross, all over the Valley. People get lazy and stupid, too. But it's very pedestrian unfriendly in this town. The next time there's any money to shake (yeah, yeah, I know), we gotta get after this.
Death by Walker!
Whatever was that man thinking? No doubt in the dark. The roads are so very wide here it's near impossible to cross them on the first try at a crossing.
Not funny, mikegino. But what do we expect from you.
It doesn't say if the driver stopped or not. Usually, they just keep on driving.
DTJ - "Rebuilding America" Money???? Sorry, but the Tea Party says NO, that the country doesn't need to fix any streets, bridges, infrastructure of any kind because they think the gov't spends too much money. Besides, you can't put up pedestrian overpasses at every intersection. It's up to the pedestrians to use common sense.
RIP for this poor man.
Munch, my comment wasn't meant to be funny. Social Darwinism is an ongoing process in the Naked City, and there are eight million stories.
I starting to believe its not the drivers' but pedestrians fault. I cannot tell you how many pedestrians I see crossing Boulder Hwy in the middle of the highway, no one expects pedestrians to be making such a stupid move especially on a six lane highway, and a lot of these j-walkers are handicap. I believe these people need to be cited, this is the only way we can reduce pedestrian fatalities.
A bit late back to the conversation, but...
Det_Munch,
No, we can't put up pedestrian overpasses everywhere. But within reasonable intervals on major arteries such as the Boulder Highway should be the goal. They actually have put one (two?) up on the BH, this year. I say keep adding. The major intersections come at one-mile intervals -- so put one up Charleston, another on Sahara, etc. It beats building two new city halls, which we absolutely didn't need.
