An electrical fire damaged a 5,000-square-foot home near Rancho Drive and U.S. 95 early this morning, fire officials said.

Fire dispatchers received 911 calls reporting a smell of something burning in the Rancho Bel Air development at 12:20 a.m. A Metro Police officer driving through the development noticed smoke and flames on the roof of a house at 2316 Rancho Bel Air Drive, officials said.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said firefighters forced entry into the home and found the fire inside a wall of a utility closet. Investigators believe the fire started near the floor inside a wall and slowly crept its way up into the attic area, where it burned through the roof.

Fire officials suspect an electrical malfunction led to the fire that started inside a wall, Szymanski said. It was ruled accidental.

The fire caused $250,000 worth of damage, but the home’s contents weren't destroyed, Szymanski said. The blaze damaged the attic area and roof of the home.

No one was injured during the fire. The occupants were not home at the time.
