Nightlife news & notes: Perfecto celebrates three years and more

Paul Oakenfold

Paul Oakenfold celebrates three years of his Perfecto residency at The Palms.

He bowls overhand. His mother has a tattoo that reads “son.” The Most Interesting Man in the World is about to have some competition. On August 31, LAX will name the most interesting man in Las Vegas, as chosen by popular vote from a list of 12 nightlife names like Mustafa “Moose” Abdi, Jason “JRoc” Craig, Justen Crews and Bob Shindelar. Of course, drinking Dos Equis doesn’t actually make you interesting. Convincing all those picky Vegas locals to go online and vote for you—well, that’s a different story.

Fashion has long had an important place in nightclubs, but it’s not usually present in the cocktails themselves. Not so August 21 at W magazine’s Magic party at Cosmo’s Boulevard Pool, where a stylist critiqued guests’ outfits and translated his recommendations into flavor notes for mixologist Jason Hughes, who whipped up custom cocktails on the spot. My consultation involved being called “granola” and a few comments about my lack of cleavage. My cocktail? A zingy tequila, pineapple and jalapeño drink that erased nearly all the stylistic embarrassment. I’ll order that again, though next time I’ll come armed with a push-up bra.

The best thing I got in the mail last week? A big metal belt buckle embossed with the words “PBR Rock Bar Las Vegas Still Kickin’” and an engraved invitation on the back to the Planet Hollywood bar’s 1-year anniversary party. On September 1 PBR celebrates with 50-cent beers from 10 p.m. to close and a photo booth to capture your drunken antics well past the next day’s hangover.

Also prepping for a birthday celebration is Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto party at the Palms’ Rain nightclub. In the three years since Oakie unveiled his otherworldly event, Perfecto has hosted DJs like Morgan Page, Felix da Housecat, ATB and, of course, Mr. Oakenfold himself, while also paving the way for electronic dance music residencies up and down the Strip. Paul and the Palms celebrate September 3, along with guests Kenneth Thomas, Mark Lewis and The Joyriders. Cheers!
