County opens cooling stations as Las Vegas temperatures soar

Clark County has opened additional cooling stations today through Saturday so homeless people and others can find relief from the scorching temperatures.

The following three locations are open seven days a week through the summer:

• The Salvation Army, 31 W. Owens Ave. in North Las Vegas: Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• The Shade Tree, 1 W. Owens Ave. in North Las Vegas: Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. This station is open to women and children only.

• Catholic Charities, 1501 N. Las Vegas Blvd.: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following additional locations will be open at varying times this week during the excessive heat warning:

• Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 Cambridge St.: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

• Dr. William U. Pearson Community Center, 1624 W. Carey Ave.: Open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

• Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road: Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

• Hollywood Recreation Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

• Islamic Society of Nevada, 4730 E. Desert Inn Road: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

• Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. in Henderson: Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

• Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Ave.: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

• Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday only.
