Hot, dry and sunny weekend ahead for Las Vegas

Some chance for showers in Mohave County, forecasters say

Keep the ice and the cold drinks coming — sunny skies and hot temperatures will be baking Las Vegas through the weekend.

A drying trend will continue across the Las Vegas area through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms will be limited to Mohave County today, the weather service said.

Much warmer temperatures are expected next week, with temperatures possibly running six to 10 degrees above normal, forecasters said.

High temperatures will range this afternoon from 98 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 106 on the east side, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 82 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 79 degrees. The record low was 55 degrees, set in 1938.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 78 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 78 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 77 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 91 degrees by 9 a.m., to 98 degrees by noon and reach a high of 105 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 102 degrees and the record high was 110 degrees, set in 1950.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 103 degrees by 6 p.m., to 95 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 89 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Monday's morning low will be 80 degrees and Monday's high will climb to 106 degrees, they said.
