Find some shade - hot and sunny weekend ahead for Las Vegas

Monsoon moisture bringing chance of isolated showers to Mohave Valley

Stock up on the cold drinks and pop open the patio umbrella. Hot temperatures climbing to around 106 degrees and mostly sunny skies are in store today through the weekend for the Las Vegas Valley.

High pressure over the Texas panhandle will increase the monsoon moisture across the eastern portion of the forecast area through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The monsoon moisture will bring isolated to scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms east of the Las Vegas Valley to mainly Mohave County, the weather service said.

A dry southwest flow will dominate the remainder of the forecast area, forecasters said. Temperatures will be about 7 to 10 degrees above normal next week.

Today’s high temperatures in the valley will range from 99 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 107 degrees on the east side, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 85 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 79 degrees. The record low was 60 degrees, set in 1938.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 83 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 86 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 82 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 92 degrees by 9 a.m., to 98 degrees by noon and reach a high of 106 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 102 degrees and the record high was 111 degrees, set in 1992 and 1937.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 105 degrees by 6 p.m., to 98 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 92 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 84 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 105 degrees, they said.
