Henderson residents can get instant access to crime news

The Henderson Police Department is introducing a service to help residents stay up to date on crime in their neighborhoods.

AlertID-My Neighborhood is an online website that allows people to enter their addresses and monitor reported crimes in their neighborhoods free of charge. Residents can sign up for emails or text messages alerting them about recent crimes, and the website has an easy interface to report incidents directly to Henderson police.

“I would encourage all Henderson residents to sign up for this free online service that can truly help keep our neighborhoods safer,” Henderson Police Chief Jutta Chambers said in a statement. “This is a powerful tool to get residents involved in looking after their families and their neighbors.”

The AlertID program provides nearly real-time updates using Henderson’s computer-aided dispatching technology. Henderson is the first city in Southern Nevada to use this service.

Users can choose to filter what types of crimes of which they are notified, limiting their alerts on a scale from severe to low priority.

The system can also send out fire alerts, information on sex offenders or crime stories in the news.

The website also has information and prevention tips for many types of crime.

To sign up, visit the website.
