Letter to the editor:

Bush-era tax cuts must be reversed

“If it was a snake, it would have bitten you.” That’s what my mother would say to me when I overlooked the obvious. Well, America, you’ve been bitten.

What is the obvious? After the introduction of the George W. Bush tax cuts in 2001, the economy started on a subtle downward spiral. By the time Barack Obama was elected president, the economy became a vortex, sucking trillions of dollars out of the stock markets. Since his election, many more concessions were made to benefit the wealthy and the vortex grew.

Our infrastructure is in serious need of repair.

We should take subsidies given to corporations and use that money to repair our highways, bridges and railroads. Why is that type of policy disregarded?

I don’t understand why people who use their private jets have us, the average Joe, pay for that use. I don’t understand why companies creating jobs overseas are receiving subsidies. I don’t understand why the obvious is being ignored.

Warren Buffett and a few of the wealthiest recognize the obvious. They know that unless the tax situation is reversed, we’ll hit a double recession or worse.
