Letter to the editor:

The Tea Party wants country to regain its glory

I’ve been reading the letters to the editor of both local papers since moving here in 2003 and have even written a few myself and have come to this conclusion: Everyone is frustrated and hates what is happening to our country.

If both Republicans and Democrats hate having a national debt, why do we have a national debt? If Republicans and Democrats hate deficit spending, why do we have deficit spending?

If Republicans and Democrats hate being involved in costly wars, why do we have them? And, finally, if Republican and Democratic voters overwhelmingly disapprove of how Congress has performed, voting themselves more and more benefits, like exempting themselves from Obamacare in favor of a health care package for themselves and their families at our expense, why do we vote them into office?

Members of Congress blame everyone but themselves for the terrible shape our country is in, when it is of their own doing. So how do we change things? Enter the Tea Party.

Tea Party adherents support the GOP mainly because the Democratic Party is the party in the White House. I can’t say that if the GOP had been in the White House then the Tea Party would have supported the Democratic Party, but it could have.

The GOP has, in the past, been more supportive of less government — although the party strayed from this in recent years — and today is more receptive to a return to smaller government, which the Tea Party advocates.

I hope this will help those who have been against the Tea Party to better understand its agenda. In the end, we all love our country and want it to return to its greatness.
