2 hospitalized after shooting, police chase in eastern valley

Updated Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 | 2:08 p.m.

A shooting and subsequent police chase sent two people to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Metro Police received a call at 10:23 a.m. reporting that someone had been shot in the 3300 block of Casey Drive, near Pecos Road and Hacienda Avenue, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The person who called police said both the victim and the shooter had left the area. Officers then spotted a car matching the suspect’s vehicle and tried to perform a traffic stop, but the car continued traveling, Meltzer said.

After a short pursuit, the suspect's vehicle hit another vehicle at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Boulder Highway. The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital to be checked, Meltzer said.

The driver of the other vehicle had very minor injuries and wasn't taken to the hospital, Officer Bill Cassell said.

A second 911 call led officers to the 4100 block of Boulder Highway, where officers found the person believed to be the victim of the earlier shooting.

That person also was taken to the hospital. Meltzer wasn't sure of the extent of the person’s injuries, but they weren't believed to be life-threatening.

Police temporarily closed the eastbound lanes of Flamingo Road and northbound lanes of Boulder Highway during the investigation.
