Sunny and hot today for Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb as high as 109 degrees on east side of valley, forecasters say

After a weekend of scattered showers, lots of sunshine, hot temperatures and some afternoon gusts are heading back to the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

A southwest flow will lead to dry conditions through Wednesday with temperatures running a few degrees above normal, the weather service said.

High temperatures today will range from around 98 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 109 degrees on the east side, forecasters said. Winds will be from the southwest 10 to 20 mph through the valley, they said.

High pressure will again develop over eastern Arizona during the second half of the week, allowing monsoon moisture to move northwest for an increasing chance of thunderstorms, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 85 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 80 degrees. The record low was 60 degrees, set in 1938.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 78 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 87 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 84 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 90 degrees by 9 a.m., to 99 degrees by noon and reach a high of 107 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 102 degrees and the record high was 111 degrees, set in 2002, 1994 and 1939.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 105 degrees by 6 p.m., to 97 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 90 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 82 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 106 degrees, they said.
