More scattered showers, storms possible again today for Las Vegas

Drier weather moving in on Monday, according to forecasters

Another day of partly cloudy skies, scattered rain and possible thunderstorms is in the works for the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

Monsoon moisture and a chance of thunderstorms will linger today into this evening across eastern portions of the Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin, the weather service said.

Storms could produce brief heavy rain and gusty winds, forecasters said.

The Las Vegas Valley will have a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, with high temperatures climbing to around 97 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 106 on the east side, they said.

Drier weather is expected to return to the area Monday and Tuesday, they said.

Rain totals from Saturday included .04 of an inch at North Las Vegas Airport, .01 at McCarran International Airport, a trace at Henderson Executive Airport and a trace at Nellis Air Force Base.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran was 78 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 80 degrees. The record low was 64 degrees, set in 2002 and 1962.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 76 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 77 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 75 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 86 degrees by 9 a.m., to 95 degrees by noon and reach a high of 103 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 102 degrees and the record high was 111 degrees, set in 1984, 1968 and 1949.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 102 degrees by 6 p.m., to 96 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 89 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Monday's morning low will be 82 degrees and Monday's high will climb to 106 degrees, they said.
