Accident area

A 46-year-old Las Vegas woman who was standing behind her stopped vehicle was struck and killed overnight by a 19-year-old driver who has been arrested for drunk driving, Metro Police said this morning.

Police said the accident occurred about 12:33 a.m. on Upland Boulevard north of Mayflower Lane.

Police said evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate a 1994 Ford Ranger was stopped in front of a residential driveway and the driver of the vehicle, the 46-year-old woman, was standing to the rear of it.

A 1999 Mercedes Benz E320 that was traveling north on Upland Boulevard crashed into the woman and the left rear of the Ford with its right front, according to police.

The driver was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center Trauma and was pronounced dead after arrival, police said. She has not yet been identified.

The driver of the Mercedes, Ivan Pantoja-Lizarraga, 19, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol involving an accident with death and failure to drive in the travel lane, police said. He will have a hearing on the DUI death charge at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 13 in Las Vegas District Court.
