A verbal altercation at a Pahrump gas station may have been what prompted a man to allegedly point a gun at two customers, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s office.

The alleged confrontation started Saturday when Marcus Jenree, 26, and his girlfriend, Tamara Long, 28, pulled behind a car with two people at a pump at Maverick gas station on the corner of Highway 160 and Homestead Road.

The parties got into a verbal argument during which Long allegedly hit one customer. According to police, Jenree then brandished a handgun and waved it in a threatening manner, challenging the other customers to a fight.

Deputies from the Nye County Sheriff’s office did not find a gun in Jenree’s possession and he denied that he ever had one on him. However, store surveillance video footage revealed he handed a black object looking like a handgun to someone after the altercation and before law enforcement arrived.

The man Jenree gave the object to was identified as his stepfather, James Richardson. Police apprehended Richardson and a handgun was recovered from his home.

An investigation revealed that both Jenree and Long were under the influence of alcohol, with Long having driven a vehicle to the gas station shortly before the altercation.

Jenree, Long and Richardson were arrested and booked at Nye Couty Sheriff’s office detention and are being held in lieu of bail set at $7,548, $1,274 and $5,000, respectively. Long was arrested on charges of battery and driving under the influence of alcohol. Jenree was arrested on charges of drawing a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction, concealing evidence and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. Richardson was arrested on charges of being an accessory to the crime.

Anyone with information pertaining to the case should contact the Nye County Sheriff’s Office at (775) 751-7000.
