Silverado can’t erase early deficit, eliminated in regional semifinals

Nevada goes another summer without sending a team to the Little League World Series

Silverado Little League team eliminated from tournament

A late rally fell short Friday as the Silverado Little League lost 3-2 to a team from Northern California and was eliminated from the tournament. KSNV coverage, Aug. 12, 2011.

Silverado Little League was eliminated Friday from the West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif., falling 3-2 to Red Bluff of Northern California in a game televised by ESPN2.

Silverado, which was looking to become the first Nevada team to qualify for the Little League World Series, surrendered three first-inning runs and never recovered despite having several chances to score.

Silverado’s two runs came in the fifth inning when Omar Ortiz singled and Buddie Pindel advanced on an error with two outs to start the rally. Kyle Fuentes ran for Ortiz and scored on a wild pitch for the first Silverado run and Mikey Ruiz doubled to plate Pindel.

Brock Hershberger singled to put runners on first and third, but Christian Turner’s line drive to right field was caught to end the threat. Until the fifth inning, Silverado was 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, including a double play to end the first inning.

In the sixth and final inning, Silverado’s batters were retired in order.

Red Bluff scored three runs on four hits in the first inning off Silverado ace Cade Adams. Adams settled down to yield three hits and no runs the rest of the game. He finished with nine strikeouts, and at one point of the game, retired eight consecutive batters.

Silverado finished 2-3 in the regional, with two of the defeats coming to Red Bluff.
