Silverado LL to play Friday on ESPN2 in regional semifinals

Omar Ortiz hit a two-run homer Wednesday for Silverado Little League in its final pool play game at the West Regionals, but it wasn’t enough in an 11-3 loss to Southern California’s Ocean View.

Silverado wrapped up pool play with a 2-2 record, qualifying for the semifinals of the six-team tournament in San Bernardino, Calif., as the No. 3 seed. They’ll play Red Bluff of Northern California at 2 p.m. Friday in the semifinals on ESPN2. Earlier in the event, Silverado fell 4-0 to Red Bluff.

Ocean View is the clear favorite to win the tournament and advance to the Little League World Series, outscoring pool play opponents 34-6 in finishing a perfect 4-0 to grab the No. 1 seed. Ocean View will play Utah’s representative, Washington LL, in the other semifinal game.

Silverado didn’t give itself much of a chance against Ocean View, managing just three hits while committing five errors. Of Silverado’s 18 outs, nine came via strikeout.

Gavin Morley had two hits and two runs for Silverado.
