Metro Police are investigating a report that a possible burglar wearing a face mask shot a person inside a northwest valley home Wednesday morning.

Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said police received a call at 8:54 a.m. from a person who lives at the home in the 7500 block of Prancing Pony Court, near Farm Road and Jones Boulevard. The caller said there was a possible burglary in progress at the home and that the suspect had shot him, Meltzer said.

The man was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

Metro spokesman Jay Rivera said police are investigating the incident as a robbery based on the homeowner’s description of events. The homeowner apparently returned to the house with his two toddler-age children and saw a burglar inside, Rivera said.

The homeowner told police the burglar had one of his guns and a struggle ensued, at which time the homeowner said he was shot in the abdomen, Rivera said. The homeowner’s wife returned to the house after the incident and before police arrived.

The homeowner, however, wasn't able to give police a complete description of the suspect, Rivera said. The homeowner said the suspect was a man, about 6-feet-3-inches tall who was wearing a black mask covering his face and black clothing, but he didn’t know his race, police said.

Detectives haven't found evidence indicating a point of entry for the burglar at the home, Rivera said. The investigation is ongoing.
