Regarding Sue Hays’ Thursday letter to the editor, headlined “Summer brings out the worst in new trash plan”:
She is right about the odor problem with once-a-week trash pickup. Since my family moved here in 1955, we’ve always had twice-a-week pickup, which we need.
I remember years ago, right after Republic Services was awarded its 35-year contract — wherein it agreed to continue twice-a-week garbage collection — it began a campaign to reduce it to only once a week.
Even with monthly pest control, when garbage sits too long it attracts rodents and insects. This program has been sold under the guise that it will encourage recycling — our family will recycle no matter the schedule; recyclables don’t smell. The Henderson City Council should not require us to participate in this pilot program.
