Coroner identifies man fatally shot Sunday east of downtown

A man fatally shot early Sunday east of downtown Las Vegas has been identified as 18-year-old Julian Covarrubias-Dimas, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Covarrubias-Dimas, of Las Vegas, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the coroner said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Metro Police were searching for four men in connection with the shooting, which occurred at 5:28 a.m. in the 1400 block of Ardmore Street, near Eastern Avenue.

Officers responded to a call about shots fired in the area and arrived to find a Hispanic man lying in the front yard of a home with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The victim was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Witnesses told detectives that four Hispanic men wearing dark clothing were involved in the shooting, police said. They fled the scene in an unknown direction in a dark-colored Mitsubishi or Saturn vehicle, authorities said.

Lt. James Weiskopf said detectives are investigating whether the shooting is gang-related.
