Hot and dry today for Las Vegas

Forecasters say chance for wet weather moving into Colorado River Valley

Las Vegas is starting out the week with lots of sunshine and hot temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

A southwest flow will prevail across most of the region this week, resulting in dry conditions, with near-normal temperatures throughout the region, the weather service said.

However, the lower Colorado River Valley and northwest Arizona will see increasing low-level moisture, resulting in a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over parts of southern and eastern Mohave County through Wednesday, forecasters said.

Today’s high temperatures for the Las Vegas Valley are expected to range from 97 degrees on the west side to around 107 on the east side, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 84 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 81 degrees. The record low was 64 degrees, set in 1957 and 1937.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 74 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 72 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 77 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 91 degrees by 9 a.m., to 102 degrees by noon and reach a high of 106 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 103 degrees and the record high was 114 degrees, set in 1978.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 104 degrees by 6 p.m., to 94 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 86 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 79 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 106 degrees, they said.
