Metro Police said a 54-year-old Las Vegas man died Monday morning after a suspected drunken driver crossed a median on Flamingo Road and collided with the victim’s car.

Police arrested Alcibiades Felix, 29, of Las Vegas, in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol involving a fatal accident, authorities said. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Police said the incident happened at 6:14 a.m. on Flamingo Road, east of South Claymont Street, which is near Maryland Parkway.

The preliminary police investigation indicates a 2008 Lexus IS350 driven by Felix was westbound on Flamingo Road, approaching Claymont, when Felix apparently lost control and crossed the raised median of the roadway, police said.

The left side of the Lexus collided with the left front of the victim’s 1995 Geo Metro, authorities said.

The driver of the Geo Metro was taken to Sunrise Hospital’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. Felix suffered minor injuries.

Authorities closed Flamingo Road for hours after the collision, but all lanes have since reopened.

Police said the crash investigation is ongoing. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim pending notification of his family.

Felix is being held without bail, according to jail records. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

This incident marks the second fatal crash in five days involving a suspected impaired driver. Police arrested 29-year-old Jose Gomez on Thursday in connection with driving under the influence of drugs involving a death.

Gomez’s vehicle collided with a car at the intersection of West Charleston and South Jones boulevards Thursday afternoon, killing 82-year-old Robert Glen Foster.
