Despite being shut out, Silverado LL still in the hunt at regionals

Silverado Little League was blanked 4-0 Sunday by Northern California’s Red Bluff in a Western Regional pool play game in San Bernardino, Calif.

With the winner of the six-team tournament advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., Silverado fell to 1-1 in the event. The top four teams play in Friday’s semifinals, which will be shown on ESPN2.

One day after beating Utah’s representative 8-3, Silverado was limited to five hits in being shut out.

Trailing 3-0, Silverado’s best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning when Alex Grafiada doubled and Gavin Morley walked to put two runners on base with one out and the heart of the lineup due up. However, Buddie Pindel and Omar Ortiz recorded harmless outs to strand the runners.

Silverado is still very much alive in the hunt to reach the semifinals. Silverado, Red Bluff, Utah’s Washington and Arizona’s Rio Rico are square with 1-1 records and two pool games remaining.

Silverado plays Rio Rico on Monday afternoon.
